Chronicles of Immortals and Demons: Prologue

1st Book: The Empire’s Traveler

Prologue: The carriage which passed by Deerwood Village

The Arch of Deerwood had been struggling to stand at the east of the town for two-hundred-and-thirty years. The words “Peace and Prosperity” and the original floral patterns on the sign were difficult to recognise. In the cracks between the rocks, yellow and withered weeds could be seen growing with vitality.
Through the wormwood, the early morning sunshine fell on Lin Xi’s body. Mottled with light and shadow, the leisureliness on the handsome face of this eighteen-year-old young man gave an illusion that he had been through a multitude of vicissitudes of life.

Standing in front of him was a comely twin-tail girl who looked two years younger than him. Compared to her thin body, her eyes were unusually large.

This handsome girl was not an inhabitant of Deerwood. She just came out from nowhere and walked to Lin Xi. Lin Xi had never seen this girl, but she began to ask him a lot of questions about him. She looked so serious from the very beginning, driving out all the childishness from her previous face.

“It’s really hard to explain it to you. After all, it’s out of sheer boredom…” Lin Xi was talking to the girl seriously as well.

“OK” nodded the girl. She moved on to another question seriously, “So what are you looking at all this time, standing here, stretching out your neck trying to look upwards? What’s so interesting about this arch?”

“I’m not admiring this arch.” Lin Xi shook his head and pointed at the top of the arch, “That nest is probably going to fall. There are two young birds in it. I’m not sure if I can catch them safely. If I make it, I can give them to my younger sister as a gift.”

It was a strange scene. Lin Xi was like a student answering a question from the teacher. But the teacher was even younger than the student. And neither of the two found it strange.

Hearing Lin Xi’s answer, the girl didn’t say anything but turned with a nod as a goodbye and left. She walked through the arch, crossed three alleys and went towards a coach staying at the side of the gravel road across the town of Deerwood.

She got on the coach, sat at the driver’s position, took the whip and ordered the two grey old horses to shamble forward. Her movements were skilled and natural, as if she was used to doing this.

“All cleared?” A chilly, prideful voice of a woman arose from inside the silent coach.

“His name is Lin Xi. He’s from the Lin Family, who owns the shop at the west side of the town. Eighteen years old, he has a sister who is seven years younger than him.” The girl didn’t turn around when she answered, but flocked the whip gently. It seemed that she treated everything seriously, no matter when she was asking questions, answering questions, or driving a coach.

The cold and prideful voice didn’t rise again, but she still continued, “People here prefer to call him Awesome Lin.”

“Oh, why is that?”

The girl turned around a little and answered, “Because he bursts out gibberish quite often, and likes to call people ‘awesome’. People here think there’s something wrong in his head, which is probably caused by a serious cold that he’s caught over two years ago. ”

“So, do you think there’s something wrong in his head?” the voice in the car arose after a moment’s break.

“He talked coherently. It didn’t seem like he’s a problem with his head. But he did say some strange things.” The girl frowned a little bit and continued after a short meditation, “After I asked him some questions, he asked me if I was checking his Hukou. I asked him what Hukou was, and he said I wouldn’t understand even if he explained to me. At the end, he said that he was standing under the arch because the nest on the top was going to fall. And he was waiting to catch the two young birds in it. And he was going to give them to his sister if he managed to catch them. But the nest was sitting firmly on the crossbeam under the overhanging eaves. I could only see a little bit of it from beneath. Even strong gasps of wind and storm wouldn’t shake it off. And most importantly, I couldn’t see a sign of living thing from where I was standing,”

“Even you can‘t make sure of it? He seems to be a tough one.” After a longer break, the voice arose again when the coach was already about to get out of Deerwood along the gravel road, “But it shouldn’t be tough for Qingluan Academy.”

The driving girl‘s eyebrows knit tighter. She asked in a more serious tone, “I don’t understand, my dear young lady.”

“When we pass by the Deereast Ling Office, tell Li Xiping to arrange him to Qingluan Academy. Counting the time spent in the journey, he should arrive there in time.”

“You are recommending him to the Concours of Qingluan?” The driving girl was surprised, “Why?”

“A funny reason. I remember when grandpa told me stories about that man. He said that the man used to shout things like ‘the storm’s coming, get the drying clothes back home!’ when there was no sign of rain. ” The speaker must have recalled some sweet memories. The chilliness in the voice was melting, as if delivered from a pair of smiling lips.

“Principal Zhang?” The driving girl’s back shivered, but she didn’t turn around.

“Who else do you think can let grandpa talk about his name all day?” the voice in the coach turned cold again, “When you get to Li Xiping, tell him to ‘take care’ of Mayor Zhang. Born a plebeian and a mere mayor, somehow he owns seven villas in the town. Send him to the Frontier Legion in the Valley of Dragon and Snake for three years. If he can make it through there, he could keep three of them. ”

“Is there anything else you want me to tell him?” The youthful girl nodded her head, and gently wielded her whip.

“Li Xiping stayed at the Frontier Legion for six years, and was a Lord for thirteen years. This kind of old fox is more clever than you think he is, I don’t need to tell him too much, he will understand what needs to be done.” The woman in the carriage sneered for a while, but after she finished her sentence, as if she suddenly remembered something, she faintly said,: “Tell him one more thing, I don’t want anyone else to know that I was the one who recommended Lin Xi.”

. . . . . . . .

The wheels of the carriage made slight noises after coming into contact with the ground. In a forest outside Deerwood Village, the playful laughter of  the kids stopped as they curiously looked at the carriage leaving Deerwood Village, go up a small hill and disappear in their curious sights.

“So there are masters in this world after all…” Lin Xi stood under the “Peace and Prosperity” sign having a strange expression. He was in deep thought, unknowingly touching his forehead as if there was a bruise.

“It’s about time.” Suddenly, his expression became solemn and serious as he pulled up his sleeves and made a pocket, looking up and focusing fully on the arch above his head.

“KA!”

The moment he finished this strange movement, maybe because it had not rained for a while, another wormwood sprout vigorously squeezed itself out of the cracks. On that upturned eaves, a wooden edge suddenly had a tiny explosion causing that crossbeam to tilt suddenly.

In the midst of a hurried cry of the fledglings, Lin Xi moved his pockets, as if he knew where and how the bird’s nest would land, catching the falling bird’s nest in his pockets firmly.

He had a resplendent smile on his face, so the morning of the Deerwood village became brisk. An eighteen year old mischievous child, holding a bird nest made of rotten leaves was running on the streets, passing through the Broken Stone Road, walking on the rocks that had becoming smooth over years of people walking over it, his cheerful footsteps brought about a series of laughter.

“Aiyo, walk slowly, be careful not to injure yourself.”

“It’s really Awesome Lin… Such a grown-up, yet he still digs for bird nests.”

“Sigh, Isn’t it so, he’s so old, yet he still plays with birds…”

“…” Hearing the auntie talk about him playing with birds made him get goosebumps all over his body. (TLN: Playing with birds is slang for masturbating in China) He did not stop, walking all the way to the north of the village to a manor which two stone lions at the door before stopping. After catching his breath, this handsome young man stuck out his chest and opened the red lacquered door, as if a general returning victorious, arrogantly walking in the manor shouting: “Lil’ Sis, come out quickly, I’ve brought something cool to show you.”

“Bro, what cool thing is it?”

As a childish voice responded, a girl wearing a small jacket dashed out of a room.

This twelve-year-old girl was very beautiful, her eyebrows were like paintings, having one small ponytail, her eyes were clear and bright and her delicate face had ink stains, making one to cannot help but laugh.

“Ah!… Small birds! Ah! TWO small birds!” Just by one look, this cute girl was frozen there, and as if waking up from a dream, she could not stopping screaming in joy.

“Lin Xi!”

A woman who was furious and worried quickly walked out from the backyard. Her facial features were similar to the girl and Lin Xi, although she had wrinkles at the corner of her eye, but at a backward place like Deerwood Village, she still looked extraordinary.

“Mum! this was dropped from the Peace and Prosperity sign. I did not climb to high altitudes to get this, if not my clothes would be in a mess right now.” The moment Lin Xi saw this beautiful woman, he stuck out his tongue and quickly explained.

This beautiful woman looked at Lin Xi’s clothes, and became soft immediately. In fact she knew that ever since her son woke up after catching the cold, other than saying all sorts of weird things, her son did not do anything that made her worry.

“Don’t touch it, Qian Qian, go and wash your face, then I will tell you how to take care of them.”

“Ah! Mum you’re the best!” the cute girl excitedly jumped around

. . . . . . .

“Bro, Since there are two birds, Why not call one Lin Xi and the other Lin Qian?”

“Er… Silly Sis, who will call themselves birds, isn’t that indirectly calling themselves Bird People?” (TLN: Calling people Bird People is an insult in China)

Deerwood Village Morning, in this serene manor, an eighteen year old youth and a girl with a clean face rested their cheeks on their hands, being entranced by the bird’s nest under the window in  a bamboo cage, while talking.

In that nest, were two yellow, hairy birds that were full from eating.

To their opposite, in a room, the beautiful woman was cleaning up the paper and ink on the desk near the window while smiling at the youth and girl who were talking.

CoIaD Chapter 3: A Traveller

Translator/Editor:yuheng3107

This should be on xianxiaheaven.wordpress.com, if it is on other sites, they are using this for their own profit.

“Be slightly interested towards Qingluan Academy? Unless you did not have any interest towards this holy place of the whole Empire before?”

The old man stared dumbfounded at the youth for a while, then thought they had a large age gap and that it was natural for him to be unable to understand many thoughts of the youth, so he closed his eyes and rested.

. . . . . .

The rain lasted for a very long time, so even as the carriage traveled ten or so li, Lin Xi was able to see the mountains far ahead. However, it still continued to drizzle lightly.

The mountain was very tall and had white snow at its peak. When the light reflected off the mountain, half the mountain was so clear it could be seen.

“That is the Main Vein of the Mountains and Seas (Name of mountain)”

Hearing the movements in the carriage, the old man who wore a straw raincoat did not turn back, saying: “Starting from the Vast East Sea, crossing all the way to the Freezing North Sea Region, it is one of the two largest mountain ranges of our Yun Qin Empire. After we pass through this mountain, we will be close to Qingluan Academy,”

“Qingluan Academy lies behind the mountain?”

Lin Xi looked at the mountains ahead, everything, including the rain, snow, the rocks on the mountains or the reflected sunlight are looked clean and pristine. Beside the carriage was a field of flowers which spread all the way into the mountains. He was extremely fond of this serene and pristine atmosphere.

Below the mountain, there was a village. Many wooden houses could be seen on the even mountain slope. The whole mountain was planted with apricot blossoms which were blossoming, looking like a patch of clouds.

“Uncle Liu, are we travelling from there?” Lin Xi’s gaze was totally attracted by the beauty of the quiet and pristine village, making him uncontrollably ask the old man.

The old man paused for a while and nodded his head, “That is the Apricot Village, the canyon we are going to pass by is behind that village.”

“Apricot Village?” Lin Xi could not help but smile, ” Does it have wine?”

The old man shockingly turned around and looked at Lin Xi, frowning: “If that shop still exists in that village, then they should sell wine, but their wine tastes normal, if we stay here we will lose one more day..”

“No, i just thought of a poem, so I asked.” Lin Xi smiled until the corner of his eyes were curved. He knew that the old man did not know the meaning of his words.

The old man nodded, evidently showing no interest to that poem, so he did not say anything.

As they got closer to the village, Lin Xi was shocked.

In the far horizon on the hill, there were some cows, and on one of them was a young shepherd who wore a straw raincoat.

“Where can a wine house be found to drown his sadness?

A shepherd points to Apricot Flower Village in the distance.”

(Poem by Du Fu, ancient Chinese Poet.)

Although there was no wine in the village, this scene was unexpectedly similar to the one in the poem.

“Uncle Liu, can we stop for a while?” Suddenly, Lin Xi said this to the old man.

The old man paused in his footsteps, slowing down the carriage.

Lin Xi opened a yellow bamboo umbrella, the petals of the Apricot tree were flying in the air as he walked into the field and looked at a wooden house in the village ahead.

There was a stream flowing in front of the house, and a bridge above it.

A woman carrying a basket holding a similar umbrella walked across the bridge. She had an average appearance and clothes, but her purity and innocence was something women in his world definitely did not have. It was something that could not be faked. Based on this point alone, the shepherd, the woman on the bridge and the village was a beautiful scene in his eyes.

“She’s just a normal country girl, is she really that attractive?” Looking at Lin Xi who had fixed his gaze upon the girl for a long time, the old man frowned while saying.

Lin Xi took off his wet shoes.  After he got into a comfortable sitting position, he said something he thought was very cool and profound: “Uncle Liu, I was not looking at the girl, I was looking at loneliness.”

“Cough… cough…” the old man looked like he choked on his saliva as he coughed profusely.

“We are reaching Qingluan Academy, Uncle Liu, according to you, there will be many people, mostly of high statuses gathering at Qingluan Academy. Catastrophe comes out of the mouth (Chinese saying), after passing over this mountain, I will stop uttering nonsense.” Lin Xi looked at the old man’s trembling back, and smiled, but he had a serious expression. “But before we pass this mountain, I might as well keep talking nonsense so that I will not be unable to endure it in the future. I currently have the best parents and sister in the world, but sometimes, i inevitably feel lonely.”

“Because no one understands.” Lin Xi opened the curtains again and looked outside and continued saying: “Actually, I am from another world. In that world, there are massive skyscrapers, planes, and trains. I was a normal university student in that world, at my fourth year. I was bout to graduate when I got into a car accident, and when I woke up, I transmigrated into this world, becoming Lin Xi. To be honest, I am very fond of this world which is so pristine, especially when my parents in that world did not even care about me, maybe they don’t even know that I got into a car accident by now. I’ve read many books from this world, and I initially thought that Yun Qin Empire was like the Qin Empire of China in the past, being a cold weapon dynasty. But I never thought about the possibility of the appearance of that the girl who kept asking me questions, and even the appearance of Qingluan Academy. Initially, I did not have much interest towards Qimgluan Academy, because being a rich man’s son in Deerwood Village is also fine by me. Unfortunately, because of the orders of the Mound Lord that appeared with you that day, whose status was equal to the City Mayor in my world,  I had no choice but to come with you. I never knew that Qingluan Academy would be such a place, is it a Dao Cultivating Sect or a Wizard’s Academy, will I be able to be like Harry Potter?”

“You asked me why I was so interested to everything on the way, scrutinizing at every detail, including that country girl.’ After pausing momentarily, he continued to speak, : “In actual fact, I am a traveler in this world.”

“What you just said is really a load of rubbish.” The old man’s eyebrows were scrunched together like never before, looking at Lin Xi answer. “Such nonsensical nonsense, you definitely should not talk about it in there.”

Lin Xi looked at the solemn old man and nodded his head, smiling, “I’ve finished my story, Uncle Liu, how about yours? I haven’t heard them from you.”

The old man slightly trembled, taking a deep breath while turning around, slowly breathing out: “I don’t have much of a story, I just stayed at the Frontier Army for some time.”

. . . . . . . . . . .

The carriage passed over a deep and long canyon. As they passed by Apricot Blossom Village and walked into this mountain valley that looked like it came from a fantasy novel, it was dawn, yet when they exited it, it was already nightfall.

Behind this canyon, the spring rain stopped. The scenery was similar to the outside, with plains and mountains, with blossoming Apricots and wild flowers on them.

There was no Village in sight, yet the old man did not pitch a tent as usual, urging the carriage to head north.

Lin Xi surprisingly found out that the heat in the air was getting more and more intense, like it was transitioning from spring to summer. The scenery was also becoming more and more foreign.

“This is the Four Seasons Plain, it is a basin between the Main Vein of the Seas and Mountains and the Sky Ascending Mountain Range. On the way, we will experience the four seasons. You can take off some clothes, because it will get hotter as time passes, but don’t dress too casually because the people from the Academy will come and fetch you.” As the sky was getting darker, a mist covered the mountains, making everything blurry, but the old man continued to move the carriage, telling this to Lin Xi.

“We can see the people from Qingluan Academy today?” Lin Xi had just closed all the curtains in the carriage, and was shocked by the old man’s words.

“Tomorrow is the date for the entrance trials of Qingluan Academy. I wanted to arrive two days in advance so that you can have a better understanding of Qingluan Academy, but the rainwater was abundant this year, making the road difficult to travel in. If we forcefully travel, these two horses will be unable to keep up, making our travel slower.” The old man turned over, telling Lin Xi:v”You only have this night to find out about the entrance tests tomorrow.”

Lin Xi froze for a second, finally realising why the old man insisted on arriving here today.

Abruptly, the carriage stopped.

Lin Xi looked at the old man’s figure in front of him. In the mist ahead, a light appeared out of seemingly nowhere.

A youth who carried a lantern walked out of the mist.

This youth wore a pitch black shirt, and his sleeves were embedded with gold. He looked a few years older than Lin Xi, having a handsome appearance, with eyebrows looking like swords. His smile was amiable and his forehead was wide, and his hair was comfortably tied behind his head using a green cloth.

“I am Xia Yanbing, a member of the academy. You coming for the entrance trials? Recommendation token?” This youth nodded at the duo, his tone neither haughty nor humble, simply speaking this sentence, yet gave one the impression of passive arrogance.

“Yes.” The old man nodded, taking and item from his sleeves.

Lin Xi looked curiously, for he did not know what a recommendation token was. He saw the youth take a square-shaped golden token which looked heavy.

“Please follow me.”

This youth looked carefully for a moment, smiling gently after, turning forward and guiding the way.

As the mountain got steeper, the two old horses got more and more exhausted, causing the old man and Lin Xi to get down the carriage. The surrounding mist gradually dissipated, and the climate and scenery of the surroundings became like summer.

After climbing up a hill, Lin Xi looked far in the horizon, and became shocked momentarily.

Below the hill was a vast plain with a mountain river that was azure blue. Beside the lake, there were towering willows growing.

There were innumerable fireflies dancing in the plains, and on the plains, near the river, there were innumerable tents, lighting up campfires one after another. This scene was exactly the scene at the Quidditch World Cup in Harry Potter.

Chronicles of Immortals and Demons 1st Book: The Empire’s Traveler

Translated by: Yuheng3107

Chapter 1

A large wind blew in Deereast Mound.

The rainwater this year was less than the previous, so even after the large wind, the sky of this backward city was still grey.

A carriage that had just changed its wheels appeared from an inn in the west of Deereast Mound. After spending half a day’s time, it crossed over the entire Deereast Mound, to the east city gate, and continued heading east, eventually disappearing in the sights of the armed soldiers at the city gate.

Other than the fact that the carriage driver was a young girl of 16 years of age, there was nothing surprising about the carriage, hence it did not draw further attention.

The Deereast Mound Mansion was like an inner city, it’s outer walls which were made by burning mud bricks reached 16.7m. The Office for the officials of the Deereast Mound only took a third of the space, the rest were military camps or practice fields.

This was nothing special as since the establishment of the Yun Qin Empire, all of the designs had the same layout, except that it was up to the Mound Lord to decide the area it covered.

At this moment, there were many large candles lighted at the north of the Deereast Mound Mansion.

These candles chased off every trace of darkness in the deep, serene Main Hall that had green stone slabs as the flooring. But the flickering candlelight shone upon Li Xiping’s face, coincidentally showing his flickering emotions.

As the highest official of the Deereast Mound, ruling over a population of 4 million, he was unexpectedly short with a slender face, having an average appearance.

Although the cuffs of his robe had oil stains, this average looking, 50-year-old old man exuded an aura like a heavy mountain, making people feel suppressed and unable to breathe just by looking at him.

“Lord..” A middle-aged man with thick eyebrows, standing firmly and wearing a black leather suit could not stand this long-term quietness and pressure, but he only bowed to this highest commanding official and addressed him. Before he could say anything substantial, the average looking Li Xiping’s eyebrows twitched. He took a deep breath and looked at the man with the thick eyebrows, saying:”You go and bring Zhang Zhendong to Liu Knifescar, go to Black Water Swamp.”

“Black Water Swamp?” The middle-aged man with bushy eyebrows stood upright out of habit, but a shocked expression immediately appeared on his face. He hesitated, saying:”Lord, wouldn’t this be too cruel?”

“Cruel?” Li Xiping’s face sunk. The moment his face sunk, it was as if the smell of blood and slaughter permeated in the Main Hall. “If not for him and me staying at the Frontier Army for two years, with this kind of thing happening, I don’t even need the upper echelons’ order to send him to the death house!” Li Xiping looked at the middle aged man with thick eyebrows and chided him harshly:”A severe illness requires strong medicine, think about the current situation of our Yun Qin Empire! If I don’t send him to that kind of place, I will not only be unable to quell the anger of that person, he will die a worse death, even implicating us!”

The middle-aged man instantly felt a chill in his heart. He was very clear of Li Xiping’s strong willpower as he had fought his way out of the Dragon and Snake Frontier Army, and in this eight years in Deereast Mound, he had never once seem Li Xiping have such a dark look, using such a fierce tone to talk.

“Who is ‘that person’, even a servant girl has such a countenace?” He nodded his head and could not help but ask.

“Servant girl?” Li Xiping instantly sneered, his eyes becoming more vicious, “You also stayed at the Frontier Army, so you should know, the less you know, the less you will think, and the easier it is to survive.”

“Understood, my Lord.” This middle aged man with thick eyebrows felt a chill in his heart again, and bowed, preparing to leave, but at this moment, Li Xiping pondered for a while before saying: “Help me to arrange for it, Let Uncle Liu drive the carriage, I will go to Deerwood Village personally.”

This middle-aged man with thick eyebrows was shocked again, but this time he did not say anything, humbly bowing before leaving.

After this middle-aged man left the Deereast Mound Manor, Li Xiping took the teacup at the front of his table, his hands pausing in mid-air for a while before he could not control his anger. With a PA! sound, he threw the teacup on the ground harshly, causing it to shatter.

What could compare to seeing a brother who went through thick and thin together with you degenerate and personally sending him to his death? This made him have an unspeakable anger, even Li Xiping who was unable to remain unmoved after being spat on at the Frontier Army could not control his feelings, causing his chest to move up and down vigorously.

However, in a matter of about ten breaths, he calmed down. He did not change his robe that had been splashed with tea, simply walking out of the Deereast Mound Mansion.

After he walked out of the door, two soldiers who wore yellow clothes quickly walked into the mansion, cleaning the mess in a jiffy, yet he already walked up a carriage that was long prepared outside.

This carriage was driven by an old man with white hair. It moved out of Deereast Mound, passing through 30 li of beach meadows and Black Water Crossing, finally reaching Deerwood Village.

Very quickly, Li Xiping strode to the mound the carriage carrying the girl previously passed by. This Mound Lord that looked older than his age looked at the sky above, broke a twig from the roadside and used it as a walking stick, slowly walking to the other town. As he continued to walk, his back looked straighter, and the twig in his lands looked more and more like a knife or a sword that was dragged on the ground.

. . . . . . .

The carriage driven by the old man from Deereast Mound Mansion stopped ay Deerwood Village for a day, then slowly traveled out of Deereast Village the next morning.

A short, plump middle-aged man and a woman with nice looks held a beautiful girl who had red eye circles, until the carriage went to the village gate, an old yellow dog slowly followed behind the trio.

Lin Xi sat on the soft cushion in the carriage, waving his hands at the trio which still wanted to follow him. His eye circles were also red, :”Mum, Dad, Sis please go back… Dad, your missing wine was hidden under my bed… I made it all into medicinal wine… If you miss me then drink some everyday… Mum, you have to take care of your body… Be careful not to catch a cold…. And Sis, be more obedient… Bro will bring lots of cool things back… And Yellow, don’t even think about those two birds.”

“Wah…” Lin Qian was originally okay, but after hearing Lin Xi’s farewell words and looking at the carriage that was speeding up, she could not help but start crying.

The tears of the woman with above average looks instantly poured out. “You bastard!” The middle-aged man who looked like a merchant looked like he wanted to scold Lin Xi, yet after scolding him, he secretly wiped the corner of his eyes. Looking at the carriage which was getting further and further, this short and plump merchant also shouted, “Bastard, when you go out stop talking gibberish, the outside world cannot be compared to Deerwood Village!”

“Dad, isn’t the furthest you travelled in your life the adjacent Mound?” Normally, Lin Xi would say something like this, but today, Lin Xi nodded, using a voice loud enough for the trio to hear, saying “Understood, my Father.”

“Bastard.” the middle-aged merchant murmured while scolding, yet his eyes were already blurred.

The carriage went straight north, until the figure of the trio and the dog could not be seen in the far horizon, even the contour of Deerwood Village could not be seen, then Lin Xi closed the curtains and lay on the cushion in the carriage.

Although he had never been out of Deerwood Village, but he was not in a hurry to look at the scenery along the way. He was sure that with the current speed of the carriage, in this equally vast world, in the coming days, he would see so many different places he would puke.

Although in these two years, he had completely integrated with the world, accepting his current identity, but this scene led him to think about many things.

Previously when he traveled to school, stepping up the train that the people of this world could not fathom, he was alone. His father who often traveled for his tea leaves business only gave him four years of living expenses. And his mother was compulsive gambler, having divorced with his father for about six years, she probably didn’t even know he was a university student.

One only learns to treasure what one doesn’t have. After finding that he transmigrated into another world, became another person, and had special abilities, he did not have any urge to see the outside world and carve a name for himself. Even towards Yun Qin Empire, his understanding to it was only limited to an Empire where the rule of law was enforced, occupying the entire Central State, establishing Villages, Mounds, Towns and Cities as administrative units.

He had a man with great wealth, not needing to worry for food and drink, being a cunning businessman, yet he can kneel down at a temple for two days and nights to pray for his sick son, promising to donate half of his fortune as his dad, a clever and obedient cute little sister, a stern-looking, but in reality soft and gentle on the inside mother, living in an isolated peaceful Village, he was very satisfied with his current life.

But this two carriages, disrupted his peaceful and fulfilling life.

Although he did not know the status of the girl who was younger than him, but it was evident that she was closely related to this carriage.

“What kind of place is Qingluan Academy?”

Just thinking about how horrifying the girl with a serious expression was, a strange expression appeared on Lin Xi’s face.

Subsequently, he took a long cloth bag out of his backpack and opened it.

Inside it was a sharpened, dangerously glinting dagger.

He took this gleaming dagger and hid it under his sleeves, gently opening the front curtains of the carriage.

The old man’s hair was very white, looking as if it had never been combed, like a ball of cotton. As the bumpy ride continued, this old man who sat at the front of the carriage looked like he was asleep.

Lin Xi kept silent, and did an incomprehensible act.

His face was calm, even having expressions of curiosity and expectation, as he took the dagger and silently stabbed the old man’s back.

“SHUA!”

The peaceful atmosphere of the carriage suddenly became chilling. The old man did not turn back, but Lin Xi’s heart suddenly contracted vigorously, a chill ran over his whole body. It was impossible to see what happened as he suddenly flew out of the carriage and landed on a bush at the roadside with a thud. This fall made him unable to catch his breath, making him feel like his body broke, making him very miserable.

“What are you thinking of doing?” The carriage stopped, the old man looked at Lin Xi’s miserable plight, his face looking chilly. The dagger which Lin Xi used to stab him was now grasped between his fingers, twisted in a strange way.

“PU!”

After much effort, Lin Xi finally caught his breath, spitting out a dead leaf and dust in his mouth. Facing the fearsome old man, Lin Xi looked as if he found his answer, solioquizing: “So there are really Masters in this world.”

“Can you fly? Do you have flying swords? Spells?” in the old man’s astounded gaze, this blood stained youth which finally managed to get up asked him this question seriously.

“Get in the car. The next time you do something like this, I will break your arm.” the old man stared ar Lin Xi for a while, before turning around and simply said.

Lin Xi, who did not get his answers shook his head helplessly, and gently said: “Let’s go.”

Subsequently, Lin Xi really went back to the carriage, returning to where he took out his dagger. He laid on the soft cushion with clean clothes, no bloodstains were seen on his face.

The bent dagger lay in his bag, and that old man who released a fearsome aura of bloodshed was still like a normal dirty old man, sleeping from time to time, looking absolutely harmless.

In the beautiful rays of spring,  this carriage where nothing happened continued to go straight north.

TLN:It may not seem like it, but translating this took me a very long time. There are just so many commars in the raws and irrelevant description which I hesitated to translate. Should I continue to translate redudant details or should I just filter them out as it may get annoying (thick eyebrow middle aged man). Please give me your suggestions in the comments!

Also, I might switch to translate another novel as this one is too lengthy for beginners like me. Feel free to give suggestions for novels (preferably short) you would like to read.

Author: Innocent 无罪

Synopsis:
Sixty Years ago, one middle aged man brought a Qilin that looked like a pug and a mandarin duck that looked exactly like a duck, walking into the Imperial City of the Central Plains for the first time.

That year, this middle aged man crossed the Mountains and Seas Ridge, passed through the Four Seasons Plain and walked into Qingluan Academy.

Sixty Years later, Lin Xi sat on an old carriage, starting from Deerwood Village, he passed half the Yun Qin Empire and went straight north, going to Qingluan Academy…

This is a story involving the honor of an Empire, of loyalty and betrayal, involving youth and hot blood, involving a young man with a different perspective of the world, and a strong cultivating academy.
